Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing

I provide EMDR therapy and can work with both eye movement and hand tappers.

It is recommended by the UK’s National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and is offered across the country in NHS mental health services.

Only clinicians who have attended accredited courses (by EMDR UK and Ireland Association) and supervised by a Consultant EMDR practitioner are allowed to practice.

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing is a form of psychological therapy developed and established since 1987and supported by a wealth of scientific research for the treatment of one or multiple experiences of trauma, anxiety, fears and pain management.

How does it work?

Eye movements, similar to those during REM sleep, will be recreated by asking you to watch the therapist’s finger moving backwards and forwards across your visual field, while you recall the targeted memory. This facilitates the natural healing ability of the body, brain and mind to process painful memories, similarly to the natural healing process of REM sleep.
