Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a form of psychological therapy facilitated over a longer period of time and the therapeutic interventions aim to facilitate exploration, reflection and understanding of our sense of self, relationship with significant others and expectations from our lives. It is a process which sets out to answer questions such as:

  • Why do we feel the way we do?
  • What are our own needs and wishes?
  • What do we want from our lives?
  • What makes relationships satisfying?
  • What choices do we want to make in our lives?

Psychotherapy is best described not as ‘the talking cure’ but as ‘the communicating cure’ in which communication is expressed verbally and nonverbally as well as carrying explicit and implicit meanings. I promote a respectful, nonjudgmental and empathic psychological exploration, supported by a confidential therapeutic relationship based on trust. The psychological process aims to support you with the expression of difficult memories, feelings and beliefs in order to address their impact on your current life. This will lead to a shared and empathically supported understanding of your sense of self, and promote new perspectives and resolutions. The choice of maintaining or changing your beliefs, expectations and feelings will emerge.

Through the psychotherapeutic process you will develop a better understanding of why you feel the way you do, and be empowered to make lasting changes in your life.
